Simon McAfee

Student Nurse

I started working for Willett House in September 2015 after 3 months I was put forward to enrol on the Veterinary Care Assistant course (VCA). I completed this is in around 3 months with the support and guidance from my clinical coach at the time Abby. I was then allowed to enrol on to the veterinary nursing diploma. I have now nearly completed the first year with help from my new clinical coach Gemma and I have successfully passed my first exam paper! Prior to working at Willet House I used to work at the Swan Sanctuary rescuing and caring for waterfowl; this included rescuing swans from areas such as Heathrow runway and fishing lakes. I am based at the Addlestone surgery, but I still work the occasional shift at Staines to gain inpatient experience. I have a keen interest in exotic animals including snakes and lizards, and thoroughly enjoy any variety of exotic we see!

At home I have a small variety of pets including 5 dogs, 2 corn snakes, a royal python (Colin), 2 map turtles and a Horse! I attend a lot of the shows we do in the summer to promote Willett House in the surrounding towns and often bring Colin out for the day! I also have a very keen interest in cars and spend a lot of my free time working on my own!

Once qualified I wish to complete further education in physiotherapy rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery and exotic nursing, to progress my skill set and knowledge.
